Year 13 Football Academy Players Look to the Future

Next summer the Year 13 students will complete their studies at Rushcroft and the vast majority are very excited about going to university and all the life possibilities that that will open up for them. Students are currently completing their UCAS applications and are working as hard as they can to improve grades to the level that will allow them to attend the university of their choice. For those students who were undecided about their futures, and to give a better idea of what life at university might be like, we took a trip to the prestigious Docklands campus of the University of East London (UEL), where the USA basketball team stayed and trained during the London Olympics 2012.

The university put on a fantastic show and organised for two of the most successful international sports scholars to come and talk with the boys about their successes, and the hard work and sacrifices that they made to be successful academically and in their chosen sports disciplines. The head of the university football programme, and their chief international scholarship recruitment officer also came and discussed their interesting career pathways.  After a short practical lesson and tour of the impressive campus facilities and accommodation, our academy players were given a ‘goodie bag’ and some course material explaining the various sports degrees on offer. If any students are interested in following similar academic or career paths, speak to the Year 13 players who will be glad to tell you how much hard work they need to do to get there!
