Chess Champion Returns

‘Patryk Czemerynski, 10GR, was crowned chess ‘Supremo’ at the Megafinal of the Delancy British UK Chess Challenge 2013 last Saturday at Basildon,  and Daniel Howard, 10GR, took the second place.  Both boys now qualify for the ‘Gigafinal’ being held on Sunday 7th July at the Rivermead Leisure Complex in Reading.

This year the competition attracted 55,000 children from 1,550 schools across the UK.  41 Megafinals took place last weekend with 6,500 children taking part.

Patryk and Daniel have been representing and playing chess at Rush Croft since they were Year 7 students.  Their standard of play is exceptionally high and puts them in the top 2% in the country.  Both boys are coached by Alan Watts, our chess coach, who comes into Rush Croft on Thursdays.

It takes commitment and dedication for the boys to reach this standard and they are to be congratulated for their success.

Well done Patryk and Daniel.  Watch this space for how they progress in the next round in July.’
